Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai today inaugurated the project to lay the pipeline from nearby Bhakra Canal to provide canal water for irrigation purpose to the residents of two villages — Reona Ucha and Reona Vhola. The project will be completed at the cost of Rs 12 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA said that the state government is committed to save the depleting groundwater by providing canal water for irrigation purposes to the villages. He said that a pipeline has been laid to deliver canal water to the fields of these two villages where the fields were becoming barren due to lack of water. He said that the way the water level is continuously falling in the villages of Khera and Sirhind block of the district is a matter of great concern. He said that it is our social responsibility to save the groundwater and it can be saved only when more and more canal water is used in agriculture. Jagjit Singh, Manav Tiwana, Deep Kumar, and former sarpanch Lakhwinder Singh Fauji also addressed the gathering.
