Candidates make last-ditch efforts to attract voters in Patiala

Candidates contesting on Patiala Rural Assembly seat —Sanjeev Sharma Bittu of the PLC, Mohit Mohindra of the Congress, Jaspal Singh Bittu Chatha of the SAD and Dr Balbir Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)— are moving door-to-door in their last-ditch efforts to woo voters. The candidates claim they are getting overwhelming response from voters.
Sanjeev Sharma Bittu
Senior BJP leaders, including Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Shekhawat, visited the city and sought votes for Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) candidate Sanjeev Sharma Bittu in public meetings.
To seek people’s support, Bittu took out a padyatra on Bhadson Road, Tripuri and other areas in the Patiala Rural constituency. Area residents welcome him by garland of flowers. The Patiala Mayor, accompanied by MP Preneet Kaur, will hold a padyatra from a famous sweet shop in Tripuri on Friday. Addressing a gathering on Thursday evening he said, “As a Mayor, I have fulfilled the demands of city residents and now I want their support.”
Dr Balbir Singh
Dr Balbir Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party said people had made-up their mind to cast their vote in favour of AAP candidate. He said, “The star campaigners are giving strength to our campaigning and attracting voters. Now we are shifting to door-to-door campaigning.”
Dr Singh held a car and tractor march through villages in his constituency on February 17. Before that he went to various religious places in the city, including Gurudwara Ravidas at DCW, Bhagat Ravidas temple in Ranjit Nagar and other places. He also held door-to-door meetings in Hira Bagh and Udham Singh Nagar among others. Activists of the AAP said now party candidate Balbir Singh would hold padyatra in the city on February 18.
Jaspal Singh Bittu Chatha
SAD-BSP alliance candidate Jaspal Singh Bittu Chatha is holding public meetings in the city. He held first door-to-door meeting in the constituency on Thursday. While addressing a public gathering at the DCW on Thursday he said, “Only hours are left for the voting. I have been going to different places in the constituency for the last 100 days for campaigning.”
Accompanied by a large number of people, he went door-to-door in the Tripuri area on Thursday afternoon, met shopkeepers and others in the constituency and sought their support. He said, “Leaders of other political parties come here to seek votes, reach the Legislative Assembly and never pay attention to the constituency. But I live here on the Bandha road and will be available for the people.”
Mohit Mohindra
Congress candidate Mohit Mohindra has been holding bike rallies in New Yadavindra Colony, Tripuri, Phulkian Enclave and meeting people door-to-door as well. On Thursday, Mohindra while meeting people in a marketplace was accompanied by men playing drums.
Mohit danced along with a toddler and interacted with members of the child’s family. He went to various houses in Seuna, Shamla, Lot and Pedni Khurd villages and discussed issues of public concern with male and female voters. He was joined by Improvement Trust Chairman Sant Banga and others during public meetings.
