Captain Amarinder visits Patiala, says BJP upbeat about Tarn Taran bypolls
"I have not visited Tarn Taran yet, but the reports I am receiving are positive and encouraging"
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh visited Patiala today, where he was warmly received by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers led by Patiala Urban President Vijay Kumar Kuka.
Speaking to mediapersons, Captain Amarinder said he was optimistic about the BJP’s performance in the upcoming Tarn Taran bypolls. “I have not visited Tarn Taran yet, but the reports I am receiving are positive and encouraging,” he said adding that he was elated to be visiting hometown on the auspicious day of Gurpurab and meeting his own people.
After a brief hiatus from active politics owing to medical reasons, the two-time Chief Minister resumed public engagements last week. On October 31, he attended two BJP programmes in Faridkot, marking his first major political appearances in months. Captain Amarinder had been maintaining a low profile since undergoing spinal surgery in 2022.
His key engagement at Faridkot included welcoming his former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Sandeep Singh Sunny Brar into the saffron party fold.
Though the Patiala visit was described as personal, it carries political undertones — especially in the backdrop of Sanjiv Sharma Bittu, a long-time confidant of the former CM and ex-mayor of Patiala, snapping ties with the royal family and rejoining the Congress recently.
