Clash leaves one dead, two injured

Patiala, January 18

A man was beaten to death while two were injured after a man fired gunshots during an altercation in Ghanaur village today.

The altercation took place among two families on Saturday in which a father-son duo and their three relatives thrashed a man identified as Lal Singh, who worked as a security guard in a private company, who died later.

The police have identified the accused father-son duo as Jassa Singh and Dalbir Singh.

The police said Lal Singh and Jassa Singh worked as security guards at a private company. The latter took medical leave from the job and in return got his son, Dalbir Singh, deployed in his place, but the company relieved the boy stating he was underage.

The father and son accused Lal Singh of disclosing the boy’s age to the company. Later, Lal Singh was ,allegedly, thrashed to death by the suspects.

The police said following the assault, Satnam Singh, son of Lal Singh, attacked the other party with his father’s licensed gun in which two relatives of Dalbir, identified as Karanbir Singh (15) of Patran and Tinku (22) of Majaula village, were injured. They were then taken to Government Rajindra Hospital for treatment.

SHO Gurmeet Singh said the police have registered a case against Dalbir Singh, his father Jassa Singh, Karanbir Singh, Tinku and one unidentified individual under section 304 of the IPC.

A counter case has also been registered against Satnam Singh under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
