The flying squad inspected the 2.5 km road, constructed by the market committee, based on a report provided by the Nodal Volunteer Team of the Health Minister from the Patiala Rural constituency.

The volunteer team on its own checks the standard of roads being built in their constituency and takes public's feedback.

Balbir Singh said the chief minister has given special attention to the quality of roads being constructed by the Public Works Department and Mandi Board across the state, and it has been ensured that the agency building the road is also entrusted with the responsibility of its repair for five years.

Balbir Singh said his team in the Patiala Rural constituency had reported that the Hiana to Mandaur Ajnauda road had deteriorated at some places shortly after its construction, so the flying squad inspected the road.

He said robust arrangements have been made so there is no scope for using sub-standard material in any development work, including roads.

Meanwhile, Supervising Engineer Manpreet Dua of the Construction Circle, Patiala, of the Public Works Department, a member of the flying squad, said they have taken three samples of the road and these will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

He said the agency and contractor concerned at the site have been given strict instructions to make the necessary improvements and repair the road in a time-bound manner.
