The Literary Society of the Punjabi Department at Punjabi University organised a book launch event for the first poetry collection, 'Varihyan Pichhon', by the prominent short story writer, essayist and history researcher Dr Waryam Singh Sandhu. Following the launch, a discussion was also held on the book.

Head of the Department, Prof Gurmukh Singh, during his welcome address, recited Wariyam Singh Sandhu's poem 'Gur De Ghar Vich Kahda Dar' (What Fear is There in the Guru's House).

Critic Prof Rajinder Pal Singh said Sandhu was a leading short story writer of Punjabi and had proven through his works and activities that he had never wavered from progressive values.

He had consistently opposed the rise of communalism and the oppression of power in Punjabi society. He added that the poetry included in Sandhu's book marks two stages of his creative journey, Prof Pal said.

Balwinder Grewal, in his creative style, presented his views on the personality and work of Sandhu. Analyzing his poem 'Amban Wali Balti', he pointed towards the damage being done to human values in immigrant situations. Short story writer Jasbir Rana outlined his personal reactions to the poetry and its impact on his mindset.
