Large numbers of Congress workers and leaders led by former minister Kaka Randeep Singh Nabha organised a protest dharna at Amloh in protest against alleged irregularities during the municipal elections. They are also calling for the reinstatement of police personnel suspended allegedly on the behest of Amloh MLA.

Resentment has been brewing among the police cadre over the suspension of four police personnel engaged in polling duty at Amloh during the recently held municipal elections.

Congress leader have now alleged that the suspensions came after a complaint by Amloh MLA Gurinder Singh Garry Birring filed following a video purportedly showing his personal assistant and supporters being pushed by police personnel at a polling booth went viral.

The MLA’s personal assistant, meanwhile, had alleged that he and the MLA’s supporters were simply monitoring the polling and the police personnel manhandled them without rhyme or reason.

Kaka Randeep Singh said, “The police personnel were doing their duty without fear or favour and did not dance to the tune of political bosses. It will become difficult for them to perform their duty honestly under such circumstances.”

When contacted, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ropar Range HS Bhullar said he would get the incident investigated by a senior officer and justice would be delivered.
