Constable killed, 2 hurt as speeding car rams into another in Fatehgarh Sahib
A police constable was killed and two others were injured in a collision between two cars at the railway crossing near Khanpur village.
The deceased has been identified as Gurmel Singh, a resident of Dirba, Sangrur district, while the two injured victims are Inderpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh. Indrapreet has been referred to a government hospital in Chandigarh for further treatment.
Gurjant Singh, the father of the deceased, said he and his relatives were returning home after attending a family function from Morinda on the night of the accident. His son Gurmel Singh and two of his friends, Indrapreet Singh and Mandeep Singh, were traveling in another car. When they reached near the railway crossing at Khanpur village, a speeding car hit Gurmel’s car which later hit a tree on the roadside. The victims were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Gurmel Singh died during treatment, while the other two injured were referred to the government hospital in Chandigarh.
The driver of the other car, meanwhile, fled from the spot after the accident.
The police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and have launched an investigation into the incident.
The victim’s body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. —OC
