Patiala, September 14
Patiala has reported 80 Covid deaths in the past 14 days, taking the toll to 248.
According to the daily health bulletins, the district has seen around six deaths per day in September, whereas it saw an average of four deaths per day in August.
Covid seems to have proved lethal for people between the age group of 50 and 70 years as almost 50 per cent of Covid deaths were reported in this age bracket.
According to the data provided by the Health Department, 139 Covid deaths were reported in the 50-70 age bracket, around 48 deaths were reported in the 30-50 age bracket and three fatalities were below the age of 20 years.
On Monday, the district reported six Covid deaths. A 30-year-old resident of Rishi Colony, who was admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital with breathing difficulty, succumbed to the disease. Of the six deaths, four were from Patiala city, while one each from Dudhan Sadhan and Kauli block.
Dr Harish said a 35-year-old resident of Ratia village in Dudhan Sadhan also died of Covid. He claimed that the patient was suffering from liver ailment.
Dr Harish said, “A majority of the deceased had co-morbid conditions. We have already sent the reports to the state health department, which is conducting the death audits.”
The health authorities continue to blame patients for the high death count. They said patients reached the hospitals in late-stage, which delayed diagnosis and became one of the major factors for casualties.
