Covid-19: Vax drive picks up pace in Patiala district

Patiala, June 25

As Covid cases mount in the district, vaccination is also picking up pace. Over the past few days, vaccination, especially the second dose, has been seeing a rise.

Health officials said around 15, 000 beneficiaries had been administered the second dose in the past two weeks. They said 90 per cent of the eligible adult beneficiaries in the district had received the first dose, while 73 per cent have received both the doses of Covid vaccination.

Apart from this, 57, 245 eligible beneficiaries have received the precautionary dose in the district, says the record. Officials of the Health Department today administered 1,980 doses of the Covid vaccination in the district.

The Health Department claimed they had started door-to-door vaccination under the ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ programme. Dr Raju Dir, Patiala Civil Surgeon, said they had prepared a list of the beneficiaries, whose second dose was due, and had acted upon that. “We are focussing on the second dose under the said programme. Our teams are reaching the houses of eligible beneficiaries to administer doses,” he added.

He further said vaccination played an important role in the fight against Covid. Dr Raju said, “Once again, cases of Covid-19 have started to rise. Therefore, people should get themselves vaccinated.”

12 fresh cases reported

The district today reported 12 positive cases, thereby, taking the tally of active case count to 73. Of today’s 12 cases, eight were reported from Patiala city, while two were reported from Kallon Majra. Nabha and Rajpura block reported one case each. Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Raju Dhir reiterated that people should once again seriously start to adopt the Covid appropriate behaviour.
