Cultural event marks birth anniversary of Mirabai
Patiala, August 26
A grand programme was organised today at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Fatehpur Rajputan, in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, to commemorate the 525th birth anniversary of Saint Mirabai. The programme began with a welcome and felicitation of the guests. Following which, students of the school mesmerised everyone with their group dance performances on bhajans such as ‘Payo ji Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Aisi Lagi Lagan’.
The major attraction of the event was the performance of renowned Kathak artiste Sadanand Biswas and his fellow artists. They presented a wonderful performance of Kathak on select pieces. Gauri Goyal and Sujata Gawade also presented enchanting performances along with him.
A special message by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Law and Justice, India, was also played in which he sang the opening lines of Meera bhajan ‘Payo ji Maine’. The students showed great enthusiasm in organising the programme. Principal Gurjinder Singh said such events enhanced students’ interest in art and culture. Dr Satish Kumar Verma, a professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, was the chief guest at the programme. He shed light on the life and works of Saint Mirabai. Vijay Singh, consultant (drama) at Sangeet Natak Akademi, provided information about the programme.
