Patiala, July 14
The district has reported an average 16 cases of Covid-19 every day in the first two weeks of this month.
Civil Surgeon Raju Dhir said they had collected 323 samples for Covid-19 testing and 23 of these were found positive today. While 19 cases were from Patiala city, two were from Nabha and one each from the Kauli and Kahlomajra blocks.
Today, 304 more samples have been collected. The district has already reported 226 cases this month.
The Civil Surgeon said the number of cases was rising and people should take preventive measures against the virus. He added, “Those who have not been vaccinated should get themselves jabbed at the earliest. Vaccines are being administered at government health centres free of cost.”
The health official said the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine would be provided to individuals above the age of 18 for free. The interval between the second dose and the booster dose had been reduced from nine months earlier to six months.
Epidemiologist Sumeet said there was a spike in the number of cases in the northern region of the country, including Delhi and parts of Punjab. People should wear a mask and avoid visiting public places unless necessary, he added.
