DC lists curbs ahead of Shaheedi Jor Mela
Devotees have started thronging gurdwaras in a large number ahead of the annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, which will be held from December 25 to 27 to commemorate the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh.
Over 20 Lakh pilgrims come from the country and abroad are expected to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib.
The District Administration has imposed various restrictions to maintain the sanctity of the Jor Mela. No government officer or employee will be allowed leave this month and they will remain stationed in respective headquarters.
In an order issued here today, Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind has banned circuses, swings, dances and entertainment games during Shaheedi Sabha.
A complete ban has been imposed on the sale of eggs, meat and fish, beedi, cigarettes in the area of Shaheedi Jor Mela and the opening of liquor shops within 3km area of Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib from December 25 to 27.
To facilitate the movement of pilgrims setting up of shops/stalls on both sides of the road from Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Sri Jyoti Sarup, Chungi No. 4 and Rauza Sharif has been banned. Flying of drone cameras by ordinary public or private persons, carrying all types of firearms, ammunition, explosives, inflammable items and sharp weapons like clubs, spears and tarshuls have also been banned. The orders will remain in force till January 31, 2025.
