Dengue larvae found at 169 sites in Patiala district

Patiala, June 24

The Health Department detected dengue larvae at 169 sites in the district during an anti-dengue drive, Friday Dry Day, here today. The dengue larvae, however, were immediately destroyed by the officials.

Health officials checked around 18,907 households during the drive. The officials said recent rains had played a spoilsport and increased the risk of spreading dengue.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has appealed the residents to actively participate in the fight against dengue.

The officials said despite the detection of larvae in a large number, they successfully deterred the breeding and no dengue case was reported this season so far.

In view of the dengue outbreak in adjoining districts, the Health Department advised people to be cautious of dengue.

Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Raju Dhir visited various areas in the city and made an appeal to residents not to let the rainwater stagnate in their houses.

He said: “Our teams are out to destroy the dengue larvae during anti-dengue drives. People need to drain out stagnant water in their households once a week. It will stop dengue breeding.”

Dr Sumeet Singh, District Epidemiologist, said: “The detection of dengue larvae is an indication that cases might be reported in the coming days. People should get themselves tested for dengue if they have fever or other dengue symptoms.”
