Many households of Dhaliwal Colony have already been sealed for the next 10 days. All vehicular movement, personal and public transport, has also been restricted in the area as per the standard operating procedure of the micro-containment zone.

It has been learnt that there were only sporadic cases earlier in the colony. However, the colony reported 12 cases on Sunday, which prompted the Health Department to declare the area micro-containment zone.

Patiala is witnessing a steep rise in the number of coronavirus cases over the past few days. Since the past four days, over 1,000 Covid cases were reported in the city. On Sunday, as many as 258 coronavirus cases were detected in the city, thereby, taking the district tally to 8,668.

However, the Health department claimed that the spike in positive cases was the outcome of increased sampling. The Patiala Civil Surgeon, Dr Harish Malhotra, said they had already crossed the daily sampling target of 3,000. “The rise is because we are detecting more cases due to increased sampling,” Dr Malhotra added.

Meanwhile, 10 Covid deaths were reported in the city during the past 24 hours taking the toll to 242.
