Dharni group sweeps Fatehgarh Sahib Bar association election
Former president Gagandeep Singh Virk was elected to the top post of District Bar Association for the third time as the Dharni group swept the poll. Virk defeated his oppoennt, Varinder Singh Dhillon, by 167 votes, securing 382 votes against 215.
Returning Officer Nirmal Puri said 12 candidates from Dharni Grewal and Sodhi groups were contesting the bar association elections for the posts of president, secretary, vice-president, joint secretary, cashier and librarian.
Harjit Singh Bhalmajra was elected to the position of Secretary defeating Bharpur Singh Dhaliwal by 124 Votes, while Ajit Pal Singh was elected Vice-President by securing a total of 317 votes and Amandeep Singh Cheema was elected Joint Secretary by getting 368 votes. Lovepreet Singh was elected as the library in-charge and Gursewak Singh the cashier.
AS Dharni, also a former president, meanwhile, said the issues being faced by lawyers will be resolved on priority basis and the relation between the advocates and bench would be strengthened.
