Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi has met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday and urged him to approve the four-laning of the Patiala–Patran stretch of State Highway No. 10, a crucial corridor for commuters travelling to Haryana and Delhi.

During the meeting, Gandhi highlighted the increasing vehicular load and the urgent need for infrastructural upgrades on the route. He emphasised that the current two-lane highway poses serious safety hazards and acts as a bottleneck for economic development in the region.

In response to the MP’s concerns, Gadkari clarified that under the revised policy guidelines, the central government does not automatically undertake state highway projects.

He stated that inclusion of a state highway in the central road scheme now requires a formal request and recommendation from the respective state government.

Gandhi said he would follow up with the Punjab government to initiate the required proposal, which could then be considered by the Centre for inclusion under national development programs.

“The meeting marked a constructive step towards addressing critical infrastructure needs in the Patiala region”, said the MP.
