Drones, 4,000 cops to keep vigil in Fatehgarh Sahib during Shaheedi Jor Mela
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ropar Range Harcharn Singh Bhullar a meeting with the district police officers to review security arrangements for the convenience of the devotees during the ensuing Shaheedi Jor Mela, scheduled to be held from December 25 to 27.
Organised to remember the Guru Gobind Singh’s Sahibzadas, who were bricked alive by the Mughals for refusing to embrace Islam, the event is expected to draw more than 20 lakh devotees.
Addressing the media, the DIG said more 4,000 police personnel and officers along with NGOs and NSS Volunteers will be deputed. He said shuttle service mini buses, e-rickshaws will also be pressed into service from eight entry points to take senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities to the gurdwara free of cost, while arrangements will also be made to esnure smooth flow of traffic.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ravjot Grewal said drones will also keep vigil during the event.
A QR code, meanwhile, has been developed containing all necessary information to ensure the devotees’ convenience. “Adequate security arrangements have been made, CCTV cameras, 54 check-posts, 13 observation posts and seven police help centers will be set up,” the SSP said, adding that nine diversions and alternative routes have been identified to maintain the smooth flow of the traffic. Besides, 20 free parking sites and three temporary bus stands will be set up for the event.
