Patiala, March 1
Miffed over the nonchalant attitude of the state government towards their demands, once again, ETT-TET pass unemployed teachers have decided to hold a protest outside the residence of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh here on Tuesday.
Demand jobs
- The teachers said there were 14,000 unemployed ETT-TET pass teachers, who have qualified the government’s eligibility criteria but are without jobs. They claimed that there were around 12,000 vacant posts in the Education Department, however, government was not in a mood to advertise the posts.
In fact, after an untimely delay — in advertising the posts for thousands of ETT TET pass unemployed candidates — a meeting was held, here on Sunday, by the ETT-TET Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union. In the said meeting, a secret action plan is said to have been planned for a state-level protest on March 3.
It is pertinent to mention that some members of the union, circumventing the tight security, had reached the CM residence on February 22 and raised slogans against the CM and the Education Minister. However, the protesters were immediately detained.
The protesters were given assurance by Patiala MP Preneet Kaur that she would raise their issues with CM and the government would advertise the said posts soon. However, after 10 days of the assurance, teachers said that there was no action over the assurance which had forced them to hit the roads again.
The teachers said there were 14,000 unemployed ETT-TET pass teachers, who had already qualified the government’s eligibility criteria but are jobless. They claimed that there were around 12,000 vacant posts in the Education Department, however, government was not in a mood to advertise the posts.
Deepak Kamboj, president, ETT-TET Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union, said, “Government is backtracking from their popular promise: Ghar Ghar Rozegar, in their manifesto. On the one hand, qualified youths are holding the protest on the road, while on the other hand, the government is spreading lies of providing employment to lakhs.”
He said the union would continue to hold protests until their demands were not met.
