Ex-MP Preneet thanks PM for Rs 1,600-cr flood relief package
Former MP Preneet Kaur expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent visit to Punjab to personally review the flood situation and for announcing an additional relief package of Rs 1,600 crore for the state, over and above the Rs 12,000 crore already sanctioned earlier.
Highlighting the dire situation in the district, Kaur informed the PM that incessant rains and floods have devastated nearly 133 villages and destroyed more than 42,000 acres of fertile agricultural land, leaving thousands of families in extreme hardship.
She urged that special attention be given to Patiala, which suffers from recurrent flooding almost every year due to the Ghaggar, Tangri, and Markanda rivers. She further requested PM to direct the Central Water Commission to undertake a detailed study and recommend a permanent solution for the Ghaggar river so that the people of Patiala and adjoining areas may finally be freed from this recurring calamity.
