Facebook helps siblings reunite after a decade

Darshan Singh (44), reunited with his brother, Leelu Ram (27), – through Facebook, after almost a decade. Darshan, who runs an E-rickshaw, saw a video on social media, wherein, he recognised his brother – working as a labourer. The video was posted by a netizen, Satpal Singh, who also runs a social organisation.
When Darshan Singh contacted Satpal, he discovered that his brother, Leelu Ram, was forcefully kept as a ‘cattleman’ at Lalina village – by a man called Ram Chand.
Darshan Singh said his brother – who is mentally challenged had left their house on July 1, 2011. Darshan Singh searched for his brother at many places and had also filed an FIR of his missing brother. Over the past nine years, Darshan said had looked for his brother in all districts of Punjab. He even had gone to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in his search of his brother but to no avail. It was on last Thursday that Darshan Singh tracked down his brother through a Facebook video of his long lost brother.
Darshan Singh said, “I had lost all hopes of meeting my youngest brother who had left the house nine years ago. But then, on Thursday, the power of the internet came into picture and somebody showed a Facebook video wherein I recognised my brother.”
Darshan Singh, along with his other family members, had already gone to Lalina village where they met Leelu Ram. Leelu, who did not talk much, however, identified his brother and mother.
Elated Darshan Singh said, “My family is complete now. He (Leelu Ram) was being missed badly by everyone at home. We will now take care of him properly.”
