Fatehgarh Sahib DC reviews road repairs in lead-up to Shaheedi Jor Mela
Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind and other officers today reviewed the repair and maintenance works of the roads, underpasses and public in the lead-up to the Shaheedi Jor Mela. The DC directed the officials concerned to speed up the work.
Notably, chief minister’s (CM) Bhagwant Mann had during an earlier review meeting instructed the district administration to expedite the arrangements to esnure the devotees’ convenience.
The DC said the district administration is making elaborate arrangements to ensure the event goes by smoothly and various prohibitory orders have also been issued to maintain the sanctity of the Mela. She warned against any negligence.
On ground, however, some important roads, including the Lincoln College Road that connects Gurdwara Sahib with the GT Road is still in need of repair. The road has been dug up at various points.
The local MLA had inaugurated repair work a month ago and promised to get it completed in the second week of December, but little has materialised.
Similarly, the VIP Road, along the Sirhind Choe, used by the CM to pay obeisance at the gurdwara is laden with potholes and requires metalling. Stop-gap repair work, meanwhile, is underway on Fatehgarh Sahib Bassi Pathana Road.
District Bar Association president AS Dharni said the patchy work will hardly last the winter. He urged the CM to conduct a timely enquiry into the matter.
PWD executive engineer Surinder Walia XEN, meanwhile, said the government has released Rs 95.54 lakh for repairing roads leading to Gurdwara Sahib and work will be completed soon.
