Folk dance, orchestra presentations, mime acts and others marked the Patialvi heritage festival organised by the district administration at the Qila Mubarak in Patiala on Wednesday.

Folk dance, orchestra presentations, mime acts and others marked the Patialvi heritage festival organised by the district administration at the Qila Mubarak in Patiala on Wednesday. The events and performances included a walk for students from Shahi Samadhan to Qila Mubarak, bhangra, giddha and gatka performances along with screening of a short film on Patiala and a classical performance by a local artist.

Punjab Tourism Minister Harjot Singh Bains was the chief guest. All eight MLAs from Patiala district—Gurdev Singh Dev Maan, Neena Mittal, Dr Balbir Singh, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, Gurlal Ghanour, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Ajit Pal Singh Kohli and Kulwant Singh Bazigar were also present on the occasion.

The performances of mime and dance (bhangra) by the students of Speaking Hands Rajpura School and others were the bright-side of the event as they performed in unison.

Cabinet Minister Bains said, “We will develop Patiala as a hub of tourism. The minister, joined by the other MLAs, also did a ramp walk on the stage to free it from drug menace.” Participants of the photography competition which was based on the heritage of Patiala were also given cash prizes. Dr Mohammad Pravez, Gurjot Singh and Hardeep Singh Ahuja bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
