Fortnight on, three nabbed for robbing Mandi Gobindgarh scrapdealer

The district police today claimed to have cracked the Rs 8.9-lakh robbery, which took place at Mandi Gobindgarh town on June 27. The police have arrested three persons and allegedly recovered the looted money, a revolver and live cartridges from them.

The suspects have been identified as Jagmel Singh (30) of Akot village, Bikramjeet Singh (26) of Asmanpur village and Amreek Singh (28) of Behal village in Patiala district. The police have recovered Rs 8.2 lakh, a .32-bore revolver, eight live cartridges and a bike used in the crime.

Addressing mediapersons, DIG Rupnagar Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and SSP Ravjot Grewal said three unidentified robbers had looted Rs 8.9 lakh from a scrap dealer, Parminder Singh of Sirhind, after throwing chilli powder in his eyes and shooting at him in the stomach when he showed resistance.

A case under Sections 307, 397 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered at the Mandi Gobindgarh police station.

The police officials said a team headed by Sub-Inspector Harminder Singh was constituted to crack the robbery. The team carried out the investigation in a scientific, systematic and professional manner, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

About the suspects, they said Amreek Singh, was aware of the cash dealings of the scrap dealer, Jagmel Singh was a two-wheeler mechanic and Bikramjeet a labourer.

The SSP said the suspects were produced in the court, which sent them in three-day police remand.
