Govt Mohindra College celebrates 150th anniversary

Punjab Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains reaffirmed that the state government is fully committed to strengthening and enriching the legacy of Government Mohindra College. He said this in response to the request of college authorities urging to government to release fund for the restoration of munificent structure which is crumbling with the passage of time.

The minister, who was speaking as the Chief Guest at the 150th Foundation Day celebrations, assured that every possible step will be taken by the government to further enhance the college, which stands as a proud symbol of 150 years of glorious history.

While felicitating 41 distinguished alumni of the college, Bains said it was a matter of immense pride that North India’s oldest educational institution has, over the last 150 years, produced eminent judicial officers, IAS, IPS, and PCS officers, besides outstanding personalities in the armed forces, police, journalism, and other fields. He emphasised that the institution has played a pivotal role in educating generations of Punjabis and preparing them to become torchbearers of their times.

College Principal Maninder Kaur Sidhu shared details about the institution’s rich legacy. She urged the government to release funds at the earliest for the restoration of the structure.

A documentary on the journey of the college, prepared by alumnus Bahadur Singh and his team, was released on the occasion, along with a commemorative souvenir.

Former Rajya Sabha Member Trilochan Singh fondly recalled his personal experiences as a student of the college.
