Haemophilia patients staged a protest here today, demanding that free medication in government hospitals.
They complained about the unaffordable treatment — nearly Rs 15,000 per day, per patient, which is beyond the reach of poor. Haemophilia, a genetic blood disorder, requires regular anti-haemophilia injections to prevent internal bleeding. These injections are not a one-time treatment but a recurring necessity, and their absence poses a grave risk to patients’ lives.
The protesting patients said despite a directive from the High Court, mandating the government to supply these life-saving injections, no action has been taken on it. — TNS
