A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Haryana Government to remove barricades at the Shambhu border within a week, the protesting farmers today alleged that the Nayab Singh Saini-led government had deployed additional security personnel and erected temporary shelters on both sides of the highway.
Farm leader Tejveer Singh said temporary plastic sheets had been installed on either side of the highway. “The deployment of police personnel has increased since early morning. This development occurred after the high court directed the Haryana Government to clear the highway,” said Tejveer.
The farmers have been camping at the Shambhu border since February 13 as part of their “Dilli Chalo” march. “It has been 148 days. We are fully alert. We suspect that the Haryana Government is planning some mischief to undermine the protest. A similar attempt was foiled on June 23,” added Tejveer.
He said a meeting of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha would be held within a week to decide the next course of action.
On June 23, tempers flared at the Shambhu border after local residents and traders had a face-off with the protesting farmers.
