Patiala, August 24

In the wake of increased complaints of contamination leading to food poisoning cases, the Health Department has intensified its efforts to ensure food served in the city was safe.

A team of health officials, led by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet Kaur, conducted surprise inspections at various food outlets and roadside eateries near Sherawala Gate, YPS Market, near Thapar College and near railway crossing number 22.

The primary objective of the inspections was to verify compliance with the food safety guidelines. The team scrutinised the hygiene practices, storage conditions and overall cleanliness of the establishments. They also checked for the presence of necessary licences and certifications.

During the inspections, the team collected samples from different outlets for analysis. These samples will be tested to determine whether these adhere to the prescribed quality and safety standard.

The DHO emphasised the importance of maintaining food safety standards to protect public health. She urged food business operators to prioritise hygiene and adhere to the guidelines to ensure the well-being of their customers.

The department has warned of strict action, including penalty, closure notice and legal cases, against establishments found violating food safety regulations.
