Patiala, June 16

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney today launched a “Helmet Bank” with the help of Patiala Foundation under its ongoing project SADAK at the District Administration Complex here.

Patiala SSP Deepak Pareek, SSP Vigilance Harmeet Singh Hundal and chief functionary of Patiala Foundation Ravee Singh Ahluwalia were also present on the occasion.

Sakshi Sawhney said the foundation had distributed 25 helmets to the employees of DC and SSP offices and after the bank’s success we would start its service for the general public also. She praised the road safety initiative and also lauded the earlier efforts of the foundation for promoting road safety. Two-wheeler users can get their helmets from the bank and in case they do not require then they will have to return the helmet to the bank, she added.

SSP Deepak said the road safety should be a part of our lifestyle and it had a positive impact on our children also. “Wearing a helmet for two-wheelers is like wearing an oxygen mask for a sick person, so not only the driver but also the person sitting behind should wear a helmet,” he said.

Ravee highlighted the various activities done by the foundation under its project SADAK. He emphasised the increasing need for road safety awareness and also shared that it was the 9th “Helmet Bank”. He said the banks had been established in various colleges, universities, organisations and associations in Patiala and Chandigarh.
