HIV awareness campaign launched in Patiala

Interactive sessions, workshops to be held for high-risk groups

The Punjab State AIDS Control Society, in collaboration with Multani Mal Modi College here, today launched an intensified Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign to strengthen the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (Disha) in Patiala.

Malkit Singh Mann, Assistant Director Department of Youth services; Dr Gurpreet Singh Nagra, District Tuberculosis Officer-cum-District AIDS Control Officer; and Dr Krishan, in charge of Antiretroviral Therapy Centre, were present at the launch event.

The chief guest, District Civil Surgeon Dr Jagpalinder Singh, said the campaign focuses on creating awareness about HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention, treatment and tuberculosis. It will hold interactive sessions, workshops and outreach programmes for high-risk groups, youth and the general public.

The campaign will also aim to reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

Nodal Officer and in charge of Red Ribbon Club Dr Rajeev Sharma said the campaign was also aimed at encouraging people to get tested and know their status, thereby reducing the spread of the disease.
