The hospital administration also directed staff to be compassionate towards poor patients. The minister, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, had visited the Emergency Department and other areas of the hospital on Monday.

A letter to head of departments reads: “There are numerous complaints from patients about ill-treatment and misbehaviour by staff, including doctors, which the minister took a serious note of.”

Medical Superintendent warned that misbehaving or negligence in patient care on the part of the staff would invite strict action.

Patients have been repeatedly complaining to the authorities regarding misbehaviour by doctors and support staff. In one of the incident, a super specialist doctor snubbed a woman patient for asking about her turn. The woman was patiently waiting for her turn. She said, “Doctor said that ‘I had wasted’ his time. He was very rude.”

Minister blames previous government for mess

Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouremajra said, “Previous successive governments have ruined this institution. Health is top most priority for our government. We will ensure that poor patients are not harassed at government hospitals. I will be regularly visiting Rajindra Hospital to ensure better healthcare for poor patients.”
