Indian History Congress to be held at Pbi varsity
The 83rd Session of the Indian History Congress is scheduled to be held from December 28 to 30 on the Punjabi University campus. Prof Syed Ali Nadeem Rezavi, Secretary, Indian History Congress, said it was the largest body of professional historians of not only India but also the entire South Asia.
Its list of membership runs into thousands and covers almost the entire subcontinent. “This year, too, we are expecting some of our members from other counties to attend the session,” he added.
Founded in 1935-36 in Allahabad with its first session in Pune, the Indian History Congress has been held regularly except for 1942 during World War II, 1947 (Partition) and 1971 (India-Pak War). An online session was conducted during the Covid pandemic in 2020.
This is the fourth time that the session is going to be held at Punjabi University. “We still remember and cherish the earlier fruitful IHC session held at the same place in 1967, 1998 and 2011. I am fortunate, like many of you, to have attended the last two sessions in 1998 and 2011,” said Rezavi.
The three-day session will include presentation of research paper under six sections — ancient, medieval, modern, countries other than India, archaeology and contemporary Indian history.
