Kolkata doc rape-murder: OPD services hit in Punjab govt medical colleges, hospitals and Aam Aadmi Clinics as PCMS association observes strike
Patiala, August 16
The Outpatient Department (OPD) services in 829 Aam Aadmi Clinics (AACs) and around 550 rural medical dispensaries across Punjab, besides OPD services in government medical colleges and hospitals have been suspended as Punjab Civil Medical Service (PCMS) Association staged a protest against the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, West Bengal.
The nursing association has also joined the protest, paralysing healthcare in the government hospitals across the state. The doctors are protesting against the lax security arrangements in medical institutes and clinics, making them a hostile workplace especially for women doctors.
Akhil Sareen, president of the association, said that the incidents of violence against doctors are rising across the country and state, and concrete steps are needed to bring them down.
