Library reading halls to stay open at night

Patiala, December 13

After much delay and series of meetings, Punjabi University today evening accepted demand of students of keeping reading halls of campus libraries open during the night.

The university officials, who had formed a committee to look into the matter, today gave a written confirmation after students on Thursday held a protest in this regard.

Until now, the students could access to the university libraries till 9 pm while the library opened at 8 am in morning. Sandeep Kaur of Punjab Radical Students Union (PRSU) said the students had held a meeting with the university officials in October who sought a month’s time to work-out the implementation part. “They did not give any response on the matter after over 30 days so we decided to hold a protest at the library. Today, they agreed to our demands.”
