Local Bodies Minister lays foundation stone of Rs 33.66-crore water pipeline project
Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh today laid the foundation stone of a pipelined water supply project worth Rs 33.66 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme at Purana Rajpura. A result of consistent efforts by Rajpura MLA Neena Mittal, the project aims to ensure clean drinking water supply to residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state government is committed to delivering a clean and prosperous Punjab.
Congratulating the residents on the launch of the long-awaited project, Dr Singh said, “If we still fail to provide clean drinking water to people, we will never be able to forgive ourselves. Previous governments have long neglected this basic need.”
He added that the project includes the strengthening of the distribution system and laying of a 57.30 km pipeline across Old Rajpura and Rajpura Town — which will benefit nearly 50,000 residents across 10,000 households.
MLA Neena Mittal explained that under the first phase of the project, major rising mains, distribution lines, and domestic connections will be upgraded. A direct rising main (hotline) will also be installed from the water works to Old Rajpura to ensure uninterrupted clean water supply.
Punjab State Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairman Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, ADC (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SDM Avikesh Gupta, EO Avtar Chand, and several residents were also present at the ceremony.
