To protest against the implementation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system on water supply schemes, Gurjant Singh a member of Jal Supply Contract Employees Union, climbed on top a water tank in the Water Supply and Sanitation Department office here today. The police and department officials had a tough time in persuading him to come down. After officials gave him an assurance that the SCADA system will not be implemented in future, he got convinced and was brought down from the tank after around one hour.

Gurjant Singh said the SCADA system was being implemented on water supply schemes, which the union had been opposing. He said earlier a meeting was held by the SDO regarding not to implement the SCADA system. He said a large number of contract workers would be rendered unemployed if the system was implemented.

He said services of contract workers in the Water Supply and Sanitation Department should be regularised and they should be given honorarium and other facilities.
