Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre to come forward to support those living in the state’s flood-hit areas.

The Minister was speaking to the media persons after flagging off trucks carrying ration and fodder for flood-hit districts.

Singh said several states are currently facing the devastation of floods and this is a time to provide urgent relief, not to indulge in politics. He appealed to the Centre to announce an immediate relief package and send Union Ministers to visit flood-hit areas to stand with the people in this difficult hour.

Appreciating the efforts of social organisations and NRIs, he said their support for the affected families is highly commendable.

“The Chief Minister along with cabinet ministers are personally supervising relief operations and the Punjab government’s machinery is fully mobilized to provide timely assistance, with the Health Department ensuring adequate supply of medicines, equipment, and preventive awareness against waterborne diseases”, he said.

He informed that over 450 emergency response teams, 323 medical teams, and 174 ambulances are working round-the-clock in flood-hit regions. Alongside healthcare, the government is ensuring the availability of clean drinking water, ration supplies, and fodder for livestock.
