Patiala, January 15
A modern fruit and vegetable market featuring a boom barrier, CCTV surveillance rooms and flyover was inaugurated on Sanour Road today.
Harchand Singh Barsat, chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, and local MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, inaugurated the entry gate and highlighted that this market is the first of its kind in the state. Online entry of fruits and vegetables will be managed through the weight-bridge on the main gate and CCTV cameras in this market.
The board has also developed a software for efficient record-keeping of produce. Additionally, a room for monitoring traders entering the market and a check post for outgoing goods have been set up.
The chairman emphasised the importance of the retail fruit and vegetable market. He highlighted that light maintenance work within the market has been completed at a cost of Rs 4.79 lakh.
The chairman addressed the concerns of the farmers during the event. AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra appreciated the hard work put in by Harchand Singh Barsat in the market’s progress.
