Several doctors, who were hired months ago for new Rs 150-crore super-speciality ward of Government Rajindra Hospital, have not joined the hospital. Consequently, five out of the eight super-specialty branches at the new building are non-operational.

Reportedly, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and neurology branches have not been started yet. As of now, only the department of urology, neurosurgery, and cardiothoracic surgery are operational.

Sources said the doctors are hired are currently working in the private sector and are asking for the extensions.

The doctors were reluctant to join the government job, said sources. A senior official said the doctors had, already, been getting a handsome amount of money — between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per month — in the private sector.
