Patiala, August 4
While the district has seen a recent increase in the number of Covid cases, Patiala remains the most affected with pandemic. The city reported 27 of 36 new cases on Thursday alone.
The Health Department has already issued directions to residents to follow Covid-19 related guidelines, including washing hands, wearing face masks, maintaining social distance and others to prevent another Covid-19 pandemic wave.
Similarly, the district reported 33 cases on Wednesday, of which 26 were from the city. On Tuesday, 28 cases were reported from the city while the total district count was 41, including two to four cases from other blocks.
District epidemiologist Dr Sumit Singh said, “The major case load is in the city itself. The positivity rate is based on density of the population. The availability of testing facility and awareness is also a major factor behind the number of people approaching hospitals to give swab samples.”
He added that at the same time the hospitalisation rate was low. “Only six people have been hospitalised in the district till now,” he said.
