Nanak Singh joins as Patiala SSP, says drug menace to be curbed

Dr Nanak Singh, a 2011-batch IPS officer, joined today as the new Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). Earlier, he was posted as Mansa SSP and replaced 2014-batch IPS officer Varun Sharma who has been posted as AIG Provisioning, Punjab and in addition SSP Sadak Surakhya Force, Punjab.
Nanak Singh had earlier also worked as Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Mansa SSP and had won hearts for his compassionate work towards the elderly and the cops on duty. He earlier had a short stint as Patiala SSP in 2022.
After assuming office and taking charge from Varun Sharma, Nanak Singh said that curbing drugs and “strict vigil and against drugs and drug peddlers will be top priority and ensuring that their proceeds of crime and their properties are confiscated will remain on top of the agenda. Organised crime and special steps to check gangsters will be another top agenda for me. Prevention of crime and detection will be the foremost priorities,’ he said.
Talking to The Tribune, he said that the traffic mess in the city will get special focus and he would soon hold meetings with the traffic wing and ensure more manpower for them to efficiently manage the traffic.
Nanak Singh did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar. Later, he cleared the UPSC examination in his first attempt in 2011. Known for his good work during the Covid days in Bathinda, Nanak Singh is admired by all for being a compassionate cop. After joining office here today, he held a closed-door meeting with senior officers of the district.
During his over one-and a half year tenure as Patiala SSP, Varun Sharma has to his credit of solving all major and other crimes in the district and ensuring that Patiala ranks among the top districts where properties of drug peddlers were attached and confiscated along with maximum recoveries.
