To preserve the endangered folk arts and the cultural heritage of Punjab, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, organised a one-day ‘Lok Virasat’ festival, featuring 14 vanishing folk arts at Kalidasa Auditorium, Virsa Vihar Kendra, Patiala. More than 150 artistes displayed their art in various genres at the festival.
This art fair was inaugurated by Padma Pran Sabharwal along with renowned theatre artiste Sunita Dhir. Various artistes displayed various art forms such as ‘Jhumar’, ‘Ludi’, ‘Bhangra’, ‘Phulkari’, weaving of carpets etc. During this, artists also presented art like ‘Tumbi’, ‘Algoja’, ‘Dhol’, ‘Dholki’ and ‘Bugdu’. Professor Rakhi Wahi Pratap of National Institute of Fashion Designing, Panchkula, gave a lecture on ‘Phulkari.
