Nine donated medals to be awarded at Punjabi University, Patiala

Nine donated medals would be awarded at the 40th convocation of Punjabi University on February 28. The money required for these medals was donated to the university by various personalities from the fields of literature, the arts, science, and the families of former alumni.

It is worth mentioning that two medals (one to the topper in MA Singing and one to the topper in MA Music) are being given in the name of the late Professor Tara Singh. Rs 3 lakh was deposited by Surjit Tara Singh in the endowment fund of the university for this purpose.

Similarly, the former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr Ram Murthy Goyal, had given financial support to establish the ‘Lakshmi Devi Memorial Medal’ in the memory of his late mother, Lakshmi Devi. This medal would be presented to the topper of mathematics BA/B Sc.

Dr Ajit Puri has also established the ‘Dewan K.S.’ Puri Gold Medal’ in the memory of his father. The medal would be presented to the topper of the MSc (Forensic Science). Jagjit Singh and Harsharan Kaur deposited the amount in the name of their daughter, Charanjit Kaur. The ‘Miss Charanjit Kaur Commemorative Medal’ would be presented to the topper of the BSc (CMS) in the Department of Statistics.

Dr Madanjit Kaur deposited Rs 4 lakh for three medals. The ‘Bibi Sharanjit Kaur Memorial Gold Medal’ would be given to the topper in MA History, the ‘Sardar Mahinder Singh Memorial Gold Medal’ for MA Punjabi, and the ‘Sardarni Variam Kaur Memorial Gold Medal’ for MSc Biotechnology.

Similarly, Harpreet Kaur, Deputy Registrar (retd), Ruby Kaur, Assistant Registrar (Verification), and Arjan Avtar Singh, Senior Assistant, jointly deposited the amount for the ‘Sarbpreet Singh Commemorative Medal’ in the memory of Sarbpreet Singh (Lali). This medal is being given to the student who excels in Masters in Theatre and Television.
