One case of dengue, five of diarrhoea reported in Patiala

The first case of dengue has reported in the district. A person from Ghagga village in Patiala was tested positive of dengue. The district had logged 271 cases in 2019; 307 in 2020; 1,018 in 2021; 1,081 in 2022; and 1,104 in 2023. Five cases of diarrhoea were also reported from Mohindra colony in Patiala.

The Health Department teams have conducted a checking at 33,112 locations out of which dengue larvae found at 114 locations was destroyed.

District epidemiologist Dr Sumit Singh said one case of malaria had been reported in Nabha. Last year, several patients from the district suffered from Dengue Type – 2 variants.

The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the public to not take any fever lightly and to get a dengue test for every suspected case, as it can be controlled with the joint efforts of the community. Residnets are advised to eliminate all sources of mosquito breeding in and around their homes, such as coolers, fridge trays, pots, and water stored in open containers. It is essential to protect oneself from mosquito bites, especially during the daytime, by wearing full sleeve clothes.

Dengue hotspots last year included Guru Nanak Nagar, Vishnu Nagar, Mathura Colony, New Officers Colony, Sular Road, Urban Estate, Ajit Nagar, Gurbaksh Colony, Raghomajra, Heera Bagh, Arya Samaj, SST Nagar, Jai Jawan Colony, Lahori Gate, Bank Colony, Jagtar Nagar, Khalsa Mohalla, Majithia Enclave, Sheran Wala Gate, Ranjeet Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Adarsh Nagar and Punjabi University, among others.
