Patiala, January 20
A day after the body of a liquor vend employee was recovered in village, the police today claimed to have cracked the case. The body of the victim, Aniket Kumar, was recovered from village Chicharwal on Friday. The police said that they have arrested the suspect and recovered the weapon used for the crime.
Addressing mediapersons, Patiala SP (operations) Saurabh Jindal said that the body the 26-year-old Aniket was recovered at the Punjab-Haryana border near village Chicharwal. “After a thorough investigation, we have arrested Ashok Kumar, who runs a tailoring and garment shop in the village. Ashok would drink at the liquor vend and became friends with Aniket. Aniket had bought clothes from the suspect’s shop but failed to pay for them,” said Jindal.
He said that on January 17, the suspect went to a barber’s shop, from where he stole a pair of scissors. Later, he went to the liquor vend where he asked Ankit to pay him his dues. As Ankit refused to make the payment, Ashok attacked him with the stolen scissors and wounded him in his neck, said the SP. Ashok then dragged the wounded Aniket to the liquor vend backyard and stabbed him to death. Jindal said that since it was a foggy day and few people were around, there was no witness to the crime.
