An official spokesperson for the VB stated that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Lang village. The complainant alleged that the clerk had demanded a bribe to assist in a case registered under Section 127/170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“After preliminary verification of the complaint, a VB team from the Patiala range laid a trap during which the accused was caught red-handed accepting Rs 8,000 in the presence of two official witnesses,” said the spokesperson.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Patiala range. The accused will be presented before the competent court and further investigations are underway, he added.
