Patiala DC reviews flood protection work in villages along Tangri river
Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav today reviewed the ongoing flood protection works in Dudhan Sadhan subdivision villages along the Tangri river, which have been affected by overflowing water. Accompanied by SDM Kirpalvir Singh, SE (Drainage) Rajinder Ghai, XEN Pratham Ghambir and other officials, she inspected the strengthening of the Tangri embankment (bandh) and interacted with local residents to ensure their safety.
The DC visited Devigarh, Dudhan Sadhan, Rohar Jagir, Bibipur, Kharabgarh, Budhmore, Jodhpur, Mehmoodpur Rookie, Gharram, Julahkheri and other nearby villages.
Dr Yadav noted that while Tangri river is currently impacting around 20-22 villages and Ghaggar affects 3-5 villages, the backflow of the Markanda river is preventing Tangri from receding. “Despite the challenges, our teams are working round-the-clock in the area to safeguard lives and property, while simultaneously strengthening the bandhs of both rivers,” she said.
The DC assured residents that the district administration is fully alert, with adequate relief camps already established in the area. She expressed gratitude towards the villagers for extending their support during this difficult time.
Acting on real-time feedback from locals, Dr Yadav directed the Drainage Department to take prompt measures. She emphasised that staff has been deployed to maintain constant vigil at every 500 metres along the embankment to prevent any breach, with active cooperation of villagers. She expressed hope that the water level will recede soon.
