Government Rajindra Hospital is under scrutiny for the alleged lack of patient care at its Covd-19 isolation ward.
A Covid patient took to the social media to express his helplessness and anger after no one allegedly attended his distress call last night.
The patient told The Tribune: “I kept screaming an entire night for help, but nobody came to attend to me. I had to break the glass of a door to raise the alarm for help. Then, an attendant came for help.”
The patient said his health had continuously been deteriorating. However, doctors were visiting him only once in four days. He said: “My bed has not been changed for long. I can’t go to the washroom without help.”
He said he wanted to move out of Rajindra Hospital and get treatment in a private hospital.
A few days ago, the relative of a patient, who died at Rajindra Hospital, had alleged negligence by the hospital authorities.
Dr Harjinder Singh, principal, Government Medical College, said: “My team has already attended the patient. His bed will also be shifted near to the washroom. We are doing our best to take care of the patients.”
Meanwhile, Surbhi Malik, in-charge, Government Rajindra Hospital’s Covid Care, appealed to the social media users not to demoralise the frontline warriors by negative posts. She said in these difficult times, there might be a few shortcomings in every organisation which could be rectified by informing us instead of highlighting them on the social media platforms.
The district administration and the Department of Medical Education and Research set up a call centre for informing the family members about the health of Covid patients. Families of all patients will be briefed about his/her well-being once a day.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit visited the first floor of the isolation ward and reviewed the situation. He said there was no need for people to worry as doctors were in a high spirits and all arrangements for the treatment of patients were in place.
