Pensioner doctors protest over arrears
Pensioner doctors of the state, including retired Punjab Civil Medical Services doctors and medical dental teachers, today staged a protest under the banner of The Pensioner Doctors Association, Punjab.
The protest marked the launch of a state-wide agitation against the Punjab Government over the alleged injustice being meted out to pensioners. The association said it would organise similar protests in other districts of the state in coordination with other organisations of pensioners and employees facing similar issues.
The state president of the association, Dr DC Sharma, along with vice-president Dr DS Bhullar and others, demanded that the government must stop wasting money on hollow advertisements and rather release the arrears of pensioners in one go without delay, instead of paying it in 42 months till 2028.
According to the leaders, the state government is withholding the 6th Punjab Pay Commission arrears of 66 months — from January 2016 to June 2021 — on the pretext of poor financial condition of the state.
