Perform your duty impartially: Bains exhorts attendees at History Congress
Emphasising on the need to identify history impartially and accurately, Punjab Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said exhorted historians and attendees of the of the 83rd session of the Indian History Congress to perform their duty with great seriousness and dedication.
Addressing the delegates at the Punjabi University on Saturday, Bains delved into the history of the Sikh community and Punjabis. He said that Punjab is a holy land and it has a very proud history.
Speaking about Guru Tegh Bahadur, Mata Gujri, the younger Sahibzadas, he said Punjab has always been a state that fought against inequality and injustice. He presented various examples from “Punjab’s journey”, starting from the efficient administration during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the great contribution of Punjabis in the freedom struggle, adding that the people were extremely proud of their history.
Earlier, Dean Academic Affairs Narinder Kaur Multani spoke about the long history of the Indian History Congress in her welcome remarks. “The Indian History Congress is a platform for understanding history objectively. She said that it is a matter of pride for Punjabi University that it is organising the session for the fourth time,” she further added.
Speaking the vote of thanks, Registrar Sanjeev Puri said history students and historians would get a lot to learn during their time at the Congress. Noting that the Indian History Congress is the largest organisation of professional historians in South Asia, Secretary Syed Ali Nadeem Rizvi said the Congress works with a scientific and secular approach towards history and always stands by democratic traditions.
During the event’s inaugural ceremony, various awards and prizes were presented to 12 young researchers who had presented their academic work at the last session organised at Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana, in 2023.
